Hey there, ShoHawk readers!
We have some really exciting announcements, and a few changes you’ll see around here, but first let’s get some context.
SHOHAWK TODAY
ShoHawk is almost a year old, and we continue being blown away by the growing relationships we’ve made with all of you!
Creating this site and throwing ourselves into creating online filmmaking resources has become a real passion; we’re excited to continue.
Your readership and support is a gift and we’re excited to continue fostering that!
SHOHAWK TOMORROW
We’re really proud of the content we post and you’ve all given us great motivation to keep moving. And move ahead, we are.
As our readership and subscribership grows, we continue scouring for what we can give you that you don’t already have. The internet is full of information.
This upcoming second year is going to be a big one for ShoHawk, and all of you coming along for the ride.
From the beginning, ShoHawk’s M.O. has been to make movies and careers, all throughout process showing you exactly how.
We want your filmmaking careers to grow with ours, and this year, we’re cranking it up!
PROJECTS
We’re so absolutely positively stoked to announce that ShoHawk is in development on feature films!
We’re moving ahead at steady speed on a few projects in development, and if you check Christopher’s Instagram, you’ll see some references to casting, locations, and other pre-production elements that are falling into place. YAY!!!
Within the next year, ShoHawk will be an active part of the filmmaking space, and you all can follow us through compelling, educational, and hopefully empowering accounts of that process!
FOR YOU!
Making films is a privilege and an adventure. These upcoming films are not our first rodeos, as you’ve observed in past posts, but they do mark our first ever opportunity to use them for more than just entertainment and/or expression!
Every experience we have, lesson we learn, victory or pitfall we come into, will serve you!
For our films, the entire process will be documented, packaged, and shared as educational material—from the earliest stages of development, through production, the final cut, release, and distribution.
We’ll give you all a front row seat to the making of an ultra low budget film in the United States using our usual blog posts, and our brand new Podcast!
In the second half of 2016, we will be constructing a Podcast wherein we will not only deep-dive into every step of the microbudget filmmaking process—from writing, to releasing—but, we’ll also sit down with our amazing crew, cast, collaborators, and experts to openly discuss.
Podcast listeners will get a window into:
- Scripting a microbudget feature
- Budgeting
- Casting
- Crewing up
- Locations
- Money management
- The business plan
- Legal counsel
- Post production
- And more!
We’ll use podcasting to answer all the questions we had while starting out making films, and some questions we still have today.
Not only will you be right there with us, but you’ll get insider information from experienced independent professionals and a detailed look at the day-to-day process of making one single film. Exciting, right?! We can’t wait!
We’ll also continue delivering you resources and content through this blog, with a few little adjustments.
CHANGES
From the beginning our focus has been on writing actionable, long-form content that our readers can put to use and generate results from.
We put a ton of time into this writing and are mindful of maintaining that bar for quality going forward, even as we expand our scope.
We’ve decided to prioritize quality over quantity and will be releasing fewer blog posts per month in order to develop these additional projects and get them to you with the same attention, care, and intended value.
So, you’ll be seeing fewer posts from ShoHawk for a while, and the ones you see will be very action-oriented deep-dives.
GUEST POSTS
In light of our work load and expansion, we’re interested in hearing from all of you! Not only have we hugely valued your suggestions for posts, but we now want to invite you to contribute!
If you or anyone you know is an expert in some filmmaking topic, and feel your/their voice could make a difference, now’s the time to reach out!
We want to promote your lessons and stories, to a wider audience who could benefit from your knowledge and experience.
If you’d like to guest post on ShoHawk, please email us at mc.hall@shohawk.com!
THANK YOU!
We think you’ll love and value what you get from ShoHawk this coming year, and wanted to inform you of the changes so you know we’re raising the bar for what you can get from us!
Stay tuned for the new content, announcements, and the Podcast launch in the fall! And, again,
Thanks so much for all of your continuing support, and we can’t wait to make year two of ShoHawk a huge step up for all of us!
Please feel free to put any responses, suggestions or celebrations in the comments below 🙂
