Without having to spend a bunch of time or money at film school Let’s do it!
What’s up guys, welcome to Filmmaking Footnote I’m your host Michael Hall, and thank you so much for being here and downloading the very first episode of this new podcast. if you’re joining me that means that you and I have a very very specific goal in mind and that is to make you a better filmmaker or film student. The way we’re gonna approach this podcast is very detail-oriented and focused.
Each podcast episode is going to be broken out by a different filmmaking term. and that’s very different than the other filmmaking podcasts that are currently out there and the reason we’re approaching it this way is because I think it is very important to have a good base knowledge of filmmaking terminology in order to make the best project possible.
Now a little background on me, I am a Producer so I come from a production mindset. I don’t think of myself as an artist, but I work with a lot of artists out there and there’s a lot of there’s a lot of misconceptions on both sides of of the coin whether you’re coming to filmmaking as an artist or whether you’re coming to filmmaking as a producer or project manager or from a production mindset, and I think that both both sides can really benefit from having a better understanding of both filmmaking terms and production terms and it is my goal to help you make the best projects possible, and so I think the best way we can do that is by really diving into these terms giving you a historical background on each term and then how you can actually apply what you’re learning into your project.
And then I’m really gonna try to give you, or I will give you tips and tricks on how best to use this for future projects as well. So these podcast episodes are gonna be pretty short. They’re gonna be about five to ten minutes for one episode, and then I will actually have notes, I’ll have a podcast episode notes on my website, which you can find over at ShoHawk.com.
That is a blog I run with my buddy Chris. Really quick background Chris, and I have been making movies since we were in the fifth grade together. We run ShowHawk as a production company on the side – we both have nine-to-five jobs like I mentioned I am a full-time shoot producer. I currently produce shoots for adidas full-time and then on the side Chris and I run ShoHawk, Shohawk.com as a blog and production company. I’m gonna make it really easy for you guys to find all of the links and show notes and tips that I mentioned in each episode, I’m gonna make it really easy for you guys to find all of that stuff by giving each episode that I produce Its own unique URL.
So, for example, this is Episode one of Filmmaking Footnote and you’ll be able to find everything that I mentioned in this episode back on the blog by going to FilmmakingFootnote.com/1 and that will redirect you back to our main website. So, if you’re committed to becoming a better filmmaker I highly recommend making this show a daily part of your routine whether you’re headed to the gym or stuck in traffic, and you just need something to pop on and listen to.
I highly recommend subscribing to the show which you can do in iTunes That way it’ll be downloaded and ready for you to go. Now the thing that excites me the most about this podcast is it that information we’re covering is evergreen This stuff has been around for the last hundred years the laughs last 50 years, and it’s not going to change you know the basics of filmmaking, they are the basics for a reason. They’re the building blocks and foundation of filmmaking and production for a reason.
The other podcasts that are out there, don’t get me wrong, I love the other podcasts that are out there around filmmaking and production but where they’re really missing the mark is with providing information, that’s going to to change over time. You know they talk a lot about new technology new cameras, new lenses that stuff you know like new sound equipment that stuff changes constantly that changes every six months and so when you go back into their archives and listen to their older episodes it’s not as relevant as talking about the fundamentals and the basics of filmmaking and production itself, which is what we’re going to do in this podcast if you make it a habit to listen to this podcast every single day I guarantee you will become a better artist a better filmmaker a better producer.
Whatever your role is you are gonna become better at your craft by listening to this podcast so I’m gonna leave you with that today and Tomorrow we are gonna jump straight into the content. Straight into the meat of this podcast and we’re gonna be covering Abby Singer.
So I’ll see you back here tomorrow, and we will get right into it. I’ll see you then.
